One of my favorite things to do when I am bored is to peruse old photographs. I love looking at pictures of myself as a child but, even more so, I adore looking through photos of my mother and father and their younger years. Black and white, Polaroid frames, and sun streaks make me wish that I had been part of a memory that was created more than fifty years ago. These images make me wonder what inspired the moment to be captured and they give me background to the events that influenced my parents to become who they are today.
I spend a lot of time obsessing over how my photos look. In fact, I would be willing to bet there are more than one hundred different effects and filters that I could apply to any one of my photos. But, old photographs, they are real. They just are. No one edited them with Afterlight or wondered about the caption that would appear beneath. And certainly no one gave any thought to the hashtags that would accompany eighty plus "likes".
# they didn't even know what a hashtag was.

as soon as i turn on any one of these songs, i either want to saddle up one of my mules and ride off into a sunset, camp in the dessert and stare at the stars or dance with my lover.
as my brother and i listened to the highwayman, he turned to me and said,
"i love how it paints a picture".
i do too.
and i'm just a sucker for that deep and oh-so sexy voice of mr. cash's.

i found this picture on one of my favorite websites today.
it's of georgia o'keeffe and her lover, alfred stieglitz.
for thirty years, they wrote almost 25,000 pages of letters to each other.
i swoon over this stuff.
with statements like the ones below, how could i not?
"i'm getting to like you so tremendously that it sometimes scares me. having told you so much of me--more than anyone else i know--could anything else follow but that i should want you?" (o'keeffe)
"all i want is to preserve that wonderful something which so purely exists between us." (steiglitz)
could you be loved

and we all know how much i love seeing how hawt i look, at all times.....
so, this do-it-yourself project was a must.
a vintage-tennis-racquet-mirror...you better believe it.

and the do it yourself project below took way too much time but the outcome was worth it.
a cardboard letter "m" wrapped in yarn...how clever is that?
i'm just keeping myself busy till i go back to school.

getting in touch with my roots

i am a little obsessed with anything vintage. a couple of years ago, my aunt bought this old house with plans to remodel it and rent it out. she has vision (and lots of dedication) because, when she bought the house it was absolutely disgusting. the man who had previously lived there was a wretched hoarder. poodles made of brambles, jars of pickled who-knows-what, wood shavings...he had it all and he kept it all. you could hardly walk or breath in the place it was so filthy, but like i said, she has vision and the house is looking amazing. i really do aspire to be my aunt, in front of the house (and the old school that came with it) she has placed a sign that says "opportunity is missed by most because it is dressed in overalls and comes in work".
thank you danette.
i kind of detest having pictures taken of myself, but, we went on a drive up the canyon tonight and my little brother acted the role of photog and i the model in order to get a picture of my favorite dress.
the ride was so beautiful and i love spending time with my best friend, oh how i've missed him.
